An American professional baseball team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Pirates are a Major League Baseball team and play in the National League’s Central Division. They are also known as the Bucs or the Buccos, based on the word Buccaneer (which means “pirate”). The Pittsburgh Pirates became part of the National League in 1887, and have made a notable record during its first three years of existence. They won three consecutive National League championships from 1901 to 1903 and successively won a World Series title in 1909 when Honus Wagner led the team. They have won a total of 5 World Series titles.
