The LA Lakers are a member of the National Basketball Association and play in the Western Conference-Pacific Division. A professional basketball team that is based in Los Angeles, California, the LA Lakers have the Staples Center as their home court. Ironically, this home court is shared with their rival (the Los Angeles Clippers) and two other local teams from the NHL and the WNBA (Los Angeles Kings and Los Angeles Sparks, respectively). The team is second to the Celtics in gaining the most number of championships, being able to win their 16th championship against the Boston Celtics last 2010 NBA Finals. Forbes estimates that the Lakers have a value of $643 million; therefore becoming the second most expensively NBA franchise. Originating from the dispersed Detroit Gems that used to play in the NBL, the LA Lakers acquired their name from the state’s famous nickname as the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
