An American professional basketball team based in Newark, New Jersey, the New Jersey Nets are a member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The Prudential Center serves as their home court where they currently play their home games. Soon though they will be moved to the new arena in Brooklyn, New York once it is finished in 2012. The New Jersey Nets originated as a member of the American Basketball Association, and in fact, were one of its founding members in 1967. The team was named New York Americans, and eventually changed to New Jersey Americans. Later on, it was turned into the New York Nets and then its present name.
