The Oakland Raiders were a men’s professional football team in the American Football Conference’s Western Division. Starting in Oakland, the team has since moved back and forth between there and Los Angeles. However, the team currently resides back where they started in Oakland, California. In 1960, the Oakland Raiders joined the newly created American Football League as a direct result of Minneapolis deciding to join the National Football League instead. During these first couple seasons though the Raiders didn’t do as well as expected however. After they brought in a new head coach in 1963 though, their luck turned around and actually only had seven seasons without a winning record over the next 40 years. Their moves between parts of California have caused some controversy throughout the years and many residents wish that the Raiders would one day return to Los Angeles.
