The Carolina Hurricanes are a member of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference. They are an American professional ice hockey team who play their home games at the RBC Center. The Carolina Hurricanes are based in Raleigh, North Carolina and are now the only professional sports team in the location. They were founded in 1971 as members of the World Hockey Association and were originally called the New England Whalers. Later on, they relocated to North Carolina and joined the National Hockey League, calling themselves the Hartford Whalers. It was only in 1997 when they were renamed as the Carolina Hurricanes. The 2005-2006 season was when they got their first Stanley Cup against the Edmonton Oilers. The final score was 4-3. Silver, white, red and black are the team’s official colors.
