A professional ice hockey team, the Edmonton Oilers are based in Edmonton, Canada. They were founded in November 1, 1971 and are a member of the Northwest Division in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League. The team joined the NHL in the year 1979 and won the Stanley Cup on the years 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990. Because of their achievements on those years, the Hockey Hall of Fame recognized them with “dynasty” status. In 2008 to 2009, the team ended up only in eleventh place in the Western Conference. In the same year, their long-time head coach Craig MacTavish got fired and was replaced by Pat Quinn. By the years 2009- 2010, the Edmonton Oilers had their worst record when they fell in thirtieth place. After that season, coach Quinn was then replaced by Tom Renney.
