The New York Islanders are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team was founded in 1972 and are based in Uniondale, New York and are one of the three NHL franchises in the New York City metropolitan area together with the New Jersey Devils and the New York Rangers. Between 1980 and 1983, the New York Islanders won four consecutive Stanley Cup championships. However, since the playoffs in 1992-1993, the team has not had any luck in winning. Eight former members of the team have been part of the Hockey hall of Fame, this includes Al Arbour, Mike Bossy, Clark Gillies, Denis Potvin, Bill Torrey, Bryan Trottier and Billy Smith.
